Check Out The Nu-Yello!

Did you know that Yellow Pages advertising is over 100 years old? Unfortunately, since the first Yellow Pages directory was printed back in 1883, there has been very little variation to the formula: businesses pay a premium to advertise in the Yellow Pages directory, and a large directory is printed by the Yellow Pages operator, to be distributed free to the public every year.

Since, the Yellow Pages was started however, the world has changed DRAMATICALLY. Most people now use the Internet, to conduct even their local searches and with their Internet. Today,with enabled mobile handsets permanently by their side, it is becoming almost impossible to justify the continued production and distribution of Yellow Pages paper directories, at such a massive cost to the environment. PND- Goes For Show On New Oprah Network!

Oprah’s new network OWN has created a contest and the winner will get their own talk show. Tania Reuben, was inspired by her blog – Pure Natural Diva – to enter the contest. Pure Natural Diva is an informational site, dedicated to Whole Living with Style and Ease.

The show – Pure Natural Diva Live – will cover the same topic. Simple Solutions to help people live greener, healthier lives.

This is a hardcore competition with high stakes. The current leader of the contest is Rener Gracie – he has the entire Ultimate Fighting Community voting for him – in two weeks he’s gotten over a million votes. As a blogger, I am thrilled to support Tania, and leverage the power of social media, to make her a contender!  She has a great mission, a wonderful site, and a her show has the potential to create meaningful change in our country.

I’m Tickled “Green”!

OK, so it does take some time and effort to be a conscientious recycler. However, in most areas there are now recycle depots, that make the job much easier. Yes, most Waste Management, facilities offer single stream pick-up , which for those of us who pay for that convenience, it means no more separating our trash.

We have always had our own system, and chosen not to pay the near $40 a month, for garbage pick-up. The one peeve, that has always bothered me though, is the menace of, “What About Styrofoam?”

Thankfully, Marilyn Lauderdale of Kent WA, asked herself the same question.

“Somebody needs to do this. Why not me?”

The “this” that is the question, is figuring out how to keep the untold thousands of pounds of expanded polystyrene foam (eps) – better known by the trademark name, Styrofoam – out of landfills. Read the rest of this entry »
