Hi Barb…If you’re going to Cleveland, be sure to see Rockefeller Park…Martin Luther King Dr. runs the length of the park from Lake Erie to Euclid Ave. It takes you very close to the Cleveland Clinic complex. I went through and had several picnics in that park in the weeks I was caring for my sister-in-law who was staying at the Hope Lodge in order to get her treatments from the Clinic. If you turn east on Euclid and go 4 blocks, you are at Mayfield Dr. where Hope Lodge is located. Traveling south on Mayfield you will travel through “Little Italy” and just beyond that is a HUGE cemetery that is the final resting place of many important people from the Cleveland area including the Rockefellers. It is fantastic and you could spend an entire day there!

Hi Judy,
Thanks for the tips! How far from Cleveland are you? Sounds like there are many coll places to see. I don’t know when Ill get there, but love the fact that they are going “green”in a pretty big way!
-
I’m shocked at how high gas prices are expected to go up again. I’ve never been to Cleveland but will put it on my “places to visit” list.
-
Hey there, my boyfriend is studying at Cleveland State University and he always says that there is nothing exciting about Cleveland.
I’ll make sure to tell him to check out those sides of Cleveland .
Thanks for your info.Tiaras last blog post..My Super Boy

@ Connie Foggles,
Ya, as for the gas prices, I think the oil companies are just raking it in because, of the time of year. When people want to travel, they want to make more money because of it. Cleveland has really put together a nice visitor plan.
-
@ Tiara,
Thank-you! Remember, if he gets one of those plus passes, he will save 30%. Check out that list of 75 green things also. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi again Barb…I am in the burbs just north of Columbus. It takes me about 2+ hours to get to Cleveland. Taking 71 north to the end (I-90/Rt. 2) and turning east to run along the lake takes a bit longer, but is a nice route along the coast…that’s where I hit Martin Luther King Ave., and turn south through Rockefeller Park.,,It’s about 3 miles long and so beautiful!

Hi Judy,
Thanks for the good tips. Sounds like from where you are is about like me making a trip from Bremerton to Portland, Oregon. It’s a good 2-3 hour drive.
-
Well I must say Barbara, I would have never thought of Cleveland as a vacation spot OR a particularly green city. The picture is really pretty and it’s great that Cleveland has many green things going on.
By the way, I love your tag line….very cute! Also, the grocery bag is cute as well. Mine are getting a bit old….now I know where to get one. Heck with promoting Whole Foods or Andronicos–

This surprises me! Cleveland??? You just have to research and there are many interesting things to see wherever you want to go. Our son is moving to St. Louis and I am excited to search out new places.
-
Hi Maureen,
Thanks for the comment. I think Cleveland has a good campaign going on to bring in tourists. It’s a lovely area and family friendly. I’m glad you enjoyed your visit to my store. I know that tag line will bring you back!
-
Hi Karen,
I think that’s part of the plan. Most people are surprised at what Cleveland has to offer. With a plus pass, they have made it even easier to take in the sights at an affordable price. I’m sure there are great places to go and things to do in St. Louis too!

@ Cady,
Well, now they have made it easy for you to enjoy some great sites at an affordable price. Have fun!

We are going on vacation pretty close to home but it still should be a lot of fun. Makes me mad that gas prices are yet again on the rise. Good thing we get good gas mileage but still makes me wish for a hybrid.

We love to take vacations where we get to our destination and stay there. Park the car and walk the rest of the trip. Indianapolis is another great city with most everything in walking distance downtown.

It is weird that this price rise is due to nothing more than optimism that the recession may be coming to an end–so people are investing in oil again.

@ Lynn,
Glad you will be able to take in some vacation fun. Just when we think we may be coming out of the recession, they raise gas prices, and interest rates too! It’s too much too soon, for a solid recovery I think!
-
@ Corrin,
Those are the most fun trips, when everything is close by and you can walk and get some exercise. You will be having a great time in your new Prius though too…lucky one!!
-
@ vein,
You are so right on that one. Like I said to Lynn, I think it is too much too soon, for a solid recovery. We can always keep printing more and more money, to try and dig our way outta the mess! Like that works!

Cleveland has truly turned itself around. They also have eco friendly hotels to keep things green. I found 4 of them on this site http://www.environmentallyfriendlyhotels.com. I hope to go visit there again soon. It has been a while since I have been there.
-
Hey, nice post, really well written. You should post more about this.

Cleveland is another jewel in the necklace of cities that line the Great Lakes. As such, it deserves as much support as any other city on the Lakes.
It has taken a long time to clean up the river and unfortunately, it may take a lot longer to live down the firey reputation.
I’m glad to see Cleveland working to draw some tourist trade. I live in Michigan and I know that this whole part of the country desperately needs the economy to ease up. An influx of tourist dollars at any point in the Great Lakes basin would help all of us.
We’ve relied on rust far too long. It seems funny that one of the greenest places on earth has relied so heavily on industry.
