How About These Pickens?

Jul-14-2008 By Barbara Rae

It’s shocking to hear coming from a billionaire oil man. There is no easy fix to the energy “emergency” we are in. T.Boone Pickens has set out to build an Army of Americans to fight for the cause of reducing our dependence on foreign oil. The 80 year old oil tycoon is lobbying for his energy plan, arguing that “This is one emergency that we can’t drill our way out of.”

Currently we are spending $700 billion dollars a year in foreign oil. Mr. Pickens wants to replace more than 1/3 of the oil we import with wind, natural gas, solar and other “green” energy sources. His plan states that it can be done in less than a decade. He sees America as the “Saudi Arabia of wind,” stating that it is the future of this country. To back up his plan, he is currently building the worlds largest 4,000 megawatt wind farm, on 400,000 acres in Pampa, Texas.

Wind could be the source of energy for many of our power plants that currently run on natural gas. This then would free-up natural gas to power planes, trains and cars. It would be cleaner and much more economical, while cutting down our dependence on foreign oil.

As Americans, we need to put aside our political views, stand up and insist that whoever is elected, do something in the area of exploring alternative energy sources. We can start by contacting our elected state representatives and insist that they take action on these issues.

For the last forty years we have been operating “like fools without a plan. ” At least now there is a plan. It is a place to start to put our country back on the track of being self sustaining. Our government isn’t doing anything, so it’s our turn! For more information visit:

    Hey Barbara!

I cant’ see what I’m typing , so Im doing it by brail. :)

Thanks for your nice comment over at Boardman Country.

I agree with you that new sources of energy can and should be explored,, if for now other reason than to get ourselves INDEPENDENT! As you know, I do not buy into all of the “green” methods, mainly because I believe the government likes to use the good intentions of folks who want to “preserve” the environment to control and tax the masses.

I’m all for keeping our environment clean, but not at the expense of personal liberties.

Meanwhile, I’ve always thought that harnessing the wind was a no-brainer of an idea!

    Keep up your good work!

Also, I way that while we’re coming up with new energy sources, let’s use what we already have available! Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less, Why Wait?

I agree with the Pickens Plan, I think it is great to have a person who has had success in the energy market to come out and say Wind in the next big thing.

    Hi Shirl,

Thanks for your wonderful words. I just have to rant every now and then. I just hate to see many people suffering, while our government does nothing. We sure have gotten away from… for the people and by the people! I say it’s time to make our voices and viewpoints heard!

    Hi Brad,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving you great comment. I totally agree with you on the whole “green” methods topic. You are so right, it seems that the government is always seeking ways to control, tax and herd the masses. Is this really the land of the free? I wonder sometimes.
Yes, harnessing th wind should be a No- brainer…but not to our government. How are they gonna make any money? And yes, I agree with you, we should drill. It can’t hurt to have a back-up plan, instead of no plan!

    Hi Beth,

Thanks for your comment! I feel the exact same way you do. If we aren’t going to listen to someone who has been in the energy business,(and he’s an oilman)…….Who are we gonna listen to?! We don’t have time to waste on ANY of these issues.

Now that is one Texas oil man we Canadians can get behind and support, not the other idiot from Crawford!!! Get rid of him, please will ya, he had his buddies have become rich over the gouging of everyone at the gas pump. I have to say T.Boone is the only oil man that makes sense, drilling for more oil will be 10 years away, and it only perpetuates the problems of fossile fuel dependency. We have to get off of this crack cocaine oil addiction fast, go cold turkey.

Buy a bicycle, eat a can of beans and propel yourself to work. Drive that SUV into the junkyard and scrap it.

Very timely and great article. As a global community,we must find out an alternative and cleaner sources of energy(like wind, solar, nuclear etc) and America can be a pioneer. In India we are heavily dependent on imported oil and there is plenty of scope for generating wind and solar power.
